Charity Auction in support of Anna Sofia Bonino’s MS treatment

A charity fundraising auction is being organised to contribute to the treatment of the young violinist Anna Sofia Bonino. A Formula One helmet signed by all the Formula One racing drivers of the Pirelli Hungarian Grand Prix 2017 has been offered for fundraising by the National Automobilsport Federation of Hungary (MNASZ) and Hungaroring Zrt.

The Formula One helmet autographed by Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Räikkönen, Valtteri Bottas, Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Daniel Ricciardo, Nico Hülkenberg, Fernando Alonso, Romain Grosjean and all the other drivers.

The highly talented and promising violinist Anna Sofia was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) two years ago. MS is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system which attacks the protective covering of the nerves, causing inflammation and often damaging the myelin. MS often occurs in young people around the age of 20 as it happened in Anna Sofia’s case. In half the cases the damage to the tissues is irreversible which leads to disability. Symptoms may vary depending on the location of the inflamed area within the nervous system. The type and the advance of the disease cannot be predicted but the first five years can be decisive. Medical science has no cure for the disease at present but treatments to lessen the symptoms may be effective. In China and Russia there has been research on neuroprotection and regenerative treatments, such as stem cell therapy, which offer the hope of a complete lack of symptoms.
