Budapest International Cello Competition to Be Held at the Liszt Academy

Applications are open until March 31 for the Budapest International Cello Competition, founded by our esteemed jury member, cellist István Várdai.

The competition is open to cellists under the age of 30.

  • Application fee: €80
  • Grand prize: €18,000, along with other valuable awards

The jury president is Frans Helmerson, renowned Swedish cellist and conductor. The jury members include Anne Gastinel, András Keller, Jens Peter Maintz, Gwen Starker, Santiago Canón Valencia, and István Várdai.

The competition will begin with a preliminary selection based on video submissions, which must be sent via YouTube link by March 31. From these submissions, the jury will select 12 competitors to advance to the second round.

Competition Schedule:

September 8-9: Semifinals (12 contestants)
September 11: Second round (6 contestants)
September 13: Grand Final – The top 3 finalists will perform at the Grand Hall of the Liszt Academy.
