José Carreras’ Message to the Virtuosos: “The Greatest Thing an Artist Can Do Is Convey Emotion”

World-renowned opera singer José Carreras joins the international jury of the second semifinal of Virtuosos, featuring Dimash Qudaibergen, István Várdai, Plácido Domingo Jr., András Keller, Albert Carreras, Yinuo Wang, István Kohán and Csaba Káel. He is participating in Virtuosos for the very first time—and he will also delight viewers a special performance.

Five young talents have already secured their place in the final of the anniversary season. In the May 23rd episode, ten more contestants will compete for the remaining spots.

A global superstar joins the panel of judges in the anniversary season of Virtuosos. For the first time ever, José Carreras will evaluate young classical music talents. On May 23rd, ten contestants from five countries—Hungary, Austria, Montenegro and Slovenia—will perform before the legendary opera singer, all vying for a spot in the grand final. The new juror shared his view on what makes a truly outstanding artist:

“In my opinion, the goal of every artist should be to convey emotions and feelings to the audience—that is the greatest thing they can do.”

In the second semi-final, the fate of the young musicians lies in the hands of Dimash Qudaibergen, José Carreras, Albert Carreras, Yinuo Wang, Plácido Domingo Jr., István Várdai, István Kohán Jr., András Keller, and Csaba Káel. As a special treat, viewers will also get to enjoy a performance by José Carreras himself—accompanied by Concerto Budapest Symphony Orchestra—who has reigned over the world’s greatest opera stages for decades.
