This Monday was presented the second Civic Panel Award, in a Gala Dinner held at The Palace Hotel Madrid, which since 1912, is a reference of luxury hotels, and meeting point for the social and cultural life of our city, to the teacher Plácido Domingo, for his extensive dedication to culture and art; for his countless performances, recognitions and activities that highlight his unwavering professional dedication.

The event began with a few words of welcome from the secretary general, Álvaro Marañón, who was in charge of reading the Minutes of the Award of the second Civic Panel Award, which unanimously of the Board of Directors was granted to Plácido Domingo, as well as, the surrendered tribute to the unrepeatable figure of Placido, already inseparable from the cultural heritage of our time.

Next, the president of the Civic Panel began her words by thanking all the attendees, remembering that the delivery of the Civic Panel awards is biannual and that, on this occasion, it was about rewarding a career, a personality that would have taken the name of Spain all over the world, awarding the second Civic Panel prize to maestro Plácido Domingo, focused his words to the winner of the person of Plácido remembering some The president concluded her speech with a poem dedicated to the teacher: « It will take a long time to be born, yes it is born, a Spanish so clear, so rich in adventure. The president, Isabel Estapé accompanied by Eduardo Montes, vice president of the Civic Panel, presented the award, a sculpture, by title “Harmony”, of the artist Eduardo Bañuelos.

The event concluded with a few words of thanks from Plácido Domingo to the Civic Panel for the award received, alluding to music, as part of his whole life: “For its great creative and communicative beauty, being the only language universally understood by all, which helps us to dialogue and evoke similar emotions between different souls, which come from distant lands and deeply different cultures.” He also showed his admiration for the “democratic objective” and paused of the “Civic Panel” and for promoting “the defense of freedom, truth and human rights, to grow awareness in our beloved country, Spain, with a critical, but always constructive spirit”.

Pilar Jurado, Plácido Domingo and Antonio Vázquez sang accompanied by the piano and toasted with wines from the Wineries of the Heirs of the Marqués de Riscal.
